QUESTION 1 (Module 1)

What does it mean to say that news stories are highly constructed? Give concrete examples in your answer.

The construction of news stories is a topic that has been controversial for the better part of the last 5o years in different countries especially the west. In photojournalism, sports journalism and journalism relating to the advancement of women issues is left to the tyranny of condescending journalistic individuals who do not regard women with a similar aptitude to that of men. Before Michelle Obama became more popular that the today’s United States president, she was referred to as an angry black woman. However, a series of videos and public relations articles in various news outlets and social media have made her one of the most admired women in history today. She commands a large following both in the United States and other countries. Through YouTube videos that were specifically created for the public, Michelle Obama was engaged in the sanitation of her identity to become one of the most revered women today. The construction of Michelle Obama’s story speaks to the manner in which the public has no control over what they are watching or interested in. With a few cues on how to create a positive or a negative image, the public’s perception about a certain character can be changed.

QUESTION 2 (Module 2)

Discuss one of the stories that you found.

Loke, Ingrid and Dustin (123) discuss feminism from an all new perspective. To begin with an outcry to the popular stereotyping that feminism has been exposed to. They identify the various misinterpretations that occur on the daily about feminism. Mostly, feminism is discussed and interpreted as a simplistic topic without deep requirements for exploration. However, the reality speaks to the manner in which feminist studies are complex and political in their nature. The story is interesting because of its exploration of the feminist narrative and its conceptualization. The importance of so doing is to ensure that the feminist agenda is understood and advanced for the benefit of the individual. In the article, feminist is a gender perspective that cuts across all the sectors of human life in society. Feminism identifies the various needs that different people have and ensures that they are covered in law and other aspects of life.

The article does not limit the feminist discussion that has been presented by the different authors in the article. For this reason, it becomes important to consider how it has discussed politics, social health and other institutions in which feminist agenda has been explored. From the article, the focus is on the social and political aspects of feminism. The paper does not properly direct attention to the individual needs of feminism. However, the take-away from the paper is that once the discussion has been properly conceptualized by the audience, then it becomes easier to advance other protectionary measures that should have been identified in the scenario. The authors discuss media discourse and how it affects women with a new identity. It propels the discussion to regard women as new equals in a traditionally masculine society.
